Philanthropiece Foundation Staff

Manuel Ernesto Perez Santiago
In-Country Director of Programs, Philanthropiece Scholars

Mr. Perez has used his degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, and Management to develop and work within diverse programs of rural development throughout Guatemala.  Originally from Chajul, Quiche, he is of Mayan Ixil ethnicity and one of the few members of his community to pursue higher academics and a professional career.  Mr. Perez has most recently served as the Regional Coordinator for Fundacion del Azucar’s Mejores Familias (Better Families), an innovative program model that encourages self-mobilization to promote food security for women.  His efforts reached over 6,000 women in the highlands regions of Quiche and Baja Verapaz.  In addition, Mr. Perez has worked with NGOs such as Proyecto Ixil and Save the Children in relation to themes ranging from civil war reparations and human rights, to micro-finance and women’s empowerment.  Mr. Perez feels deeply that improved access to educational opportunities is the key to promoting positive social change in Guatemala.  It is because of this that he has committed to return home to his of Chajul, offering his experience and support as Philanthropiece’s Program Coordinator.

At Philanthropiece, we are fortunate to have a team of inspired and inspiring individuals who are willing to go to the end of the earth and back – or at least to the end of a long dirt road in the back of a bumpy bus – to share in the process of creating a better life in our partner communities.
