Philanthropiece Foundation Staff

Ernesto Vázquez Morquecho
Regional Coordinator (La Paz), Community Banks

When Ernesto arrived in Baja California Sur in 1991, he immediately fell in love with the peninsula; adapting to the contrast of the sea and desert has been an experience and an adventure for him. Ernesto holds a BA in Marine Biology, as well as an MA in Globalization and Sustainable Development from the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur.  Since graduating from university, he has had many opportunities to do research on dolphins and whales, and has sailed many miles, learning about other people and places. In 2002, Ernesto began working for the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas, first as a Ranger and later as Communications Officer. It was during these years that the idea of nature conservation and the development of communities living in protected natural areas became his new passion. In 2011 he joined the staff of the Natural History Society Niparajá, a local conservation NGO where he participated in various local conservation and development projects. Now a Philanthropiece staff member, Ernesto continues to participate on research cruises, in search of marine mammals. He lives in La Paz, BCS with his family (wife, son, daughter, dogs and cats), working for a better community.

At Philanthropiece, we are fortunate to have a team of inspired and inspiring individuals who are willing to go to the end of the earth and back – or at least to the end of a long dirt road in the back of a bumpy bus – to share in the process of creating a better life in our partner communities.
