Global Social & Sustainable Enterprises

Philanthropiece has partnered with Colorado State University on the Center for Advancement of Sustainable Enterprise and the Global Social and Sustainable Enterprise Program. The GSSE MBA Program is a concentration in the Master of Science in Business Administration at the College of Business aimed entirely at the convergence of social entrepreneurship and sustainability.  The centerpiece of the GSSE is an intensive summer practicum in which student teams work on ventures domestically and abroad to apply classroom learning in the real world.  The summer intensive is sponsored in part by Philanthropiece.  Students visit the regions in which they plan to implement their enterprises, and in doing so gain hands-on experience in using business models as a way to approach environmental, social and health issues in a developing economy. Philanthropiece has been proud to support  and consult for a number of GSSE Ventures, including:

Siembra Organica

Working alongside farmers in the Bolivian Altiplano, Siembra Organica is bridging the excess supply of waste from llamas with the ever-growing demand for organic fertilizer to restore diminishing quinoa yields.

Living Roots

Living Roots protects cultural diversity and develops economic opportunity by helping communities capture the value of their cultural assets through education and social enterprise. Philanthropiece continues to work alongside Living Roots in Baja, Mexico.

AYZH is a for-profit social venture providing health and livelihood solutions to impoverished women worldwide. They develop low-cost, appropriate technology designed to meet the unique needs of women in resource-poor settings. AYZH has won numerous awards since their time as a GSSE Venture, including founding member Zubaida Bai’s recognition as a 2012 Echoing Green Fellow.

Running Water International

Aiming to improve the lives of communities in the Global South by providing appropriate solutions to the global water crisis. Running Water International – a 2009 GSSE Venture – continues to operate as a company employing local staff in Kenya.
