Planting the seeds of a family’s kitchen garden in the village of Vizcuchuj, Chajul, Guatemala. To participate, families cleaned and prepared their soil, created beds, built a fence around their garden, and attended a series of workshops on food security and vegetable gardening. While the vast majority of people in Chajul are farmers, they are familiar with planting corn, beans, and coffee. They are trained to plant, care for, and prepare the food from plants such as broccoli, carrots, and cilantro.
