It was a great honor to receive this letter last week from Diego Eliseo Imul Calel, a third year Philanthropiece Scholar in Chajul, Guatemala. Eliseo is studying nursing at the Universidad Rafael Landivar in Santa Cruz Quiche; he is concentrating on maternal health. The letter is translated from its original Spanish and published with Eliseo’s permission.
To the Philanthropiece team:
Only a few days remain until the new year, and before it comes, I wanted to send a letter to the very important people in my life; you are one of them. It is a pleasure for me to write this letter to express my sincere appreciation for all of the economic, emotional, and professional support that you have given me throughout the past year. It’s difficult for me to find a way to thank you enough, but perhaps my accomplishments can help me to do so. This year, I have had professional experiences, an improved academic level, a competitive grade point average in my university, and the ability to provide services to my community. I have already realized so many of my dreams, and was able to do so with the grain of support that each one of the Philanthropiece team has offered me.
I feel so very fortunate to be able to be a part of this team, as well as to receive the special and unique support that you offer. Your support is so complete, extending from a quetzal to a hug offered in celebration of my accomplishments. With all of this, I can dream of a different future; this is the best gift that I can receive during this holiday season. Once again, I offer my sincere gratitude and my intention to give my best to this program – to my community projects, professional training, and university studies. I make a commitment to you to continue to make the most of this opportunity.
